Padauk is a stunning reddish orange color which will age over many years to a deep purple-brown or black.
Our Oregon Stripled Myrtle has a beautiful cream color with intense striping.
Redheart can achieve a striking deep red color.
Purpleheart is a striking deep purple in color. Turns well and finishes well. Many people have a bit of difficulty when first working with Purpleheart in getting a striking finish. When turned and sanded, you will have a light purple color. To achieve the best look, don't immediately finish your Purpleheart pen since this will seal the wood and prevent oxidation leaving you with a pen that is a dull, light purple. Light and a bit of oxidation is what is required to bring out the deep purple color. After turning, set the turned pen, with bare wood aside in your shop with the lights on overnight. After several hours, it will turn a brilliant purple color at which point you can finish it to seal the wood. Over several decades, the wood will eventually oxidize to a deep purplish brown color.
Spanish Cedar is generally overlooked for producing anything except liners for humidors. This striking wood turns like a dream and displays excellent grain patterns with an almost grainy appearance when finished.
